Swap Your Town is your chance to experience a different side of Costa Rica without leaving paradise behind. Spend a week in Monteverde improving your Spanish, living with a local Costa Rican family, and discovering the cloud forest through cultural and nature activities.
Designed for people already living or traveling in Costa Rica, the program combines:
- 10 hours of Spanish classes per week
- Homestay with a local Costa Rican family
- Private room
- Breakfast and dinner daily
- Weekly laundry service
- Two activities of your choice
Choose from a Costa Rican cooking class, dancing class, orchid garden, Bat Jungle, or a cloud forest hike in one of Monteverde’s main preserves.
All of this for $500 per week.
Available September through November 2026, with the flexibility to join for one week or stay longer.

Choose two activities as part of your program and discover Monteverde beyond the classroom:
- Costa Rican Cooking Class – Prepare traditional dishes while learning more about local ingredients and Costa Rican food culture.
- Dancing Class – Learn some of Costa Rica and Latin America’s most popular rhythms in a relaxed and social setting.
- Orchid Garden – Discover the incredible variety of orchids found in the Monteverde region.
- Bat Jungle – Get a closer look at one of the cloud forest’s most fascinating nocturnal inhabitants.
- Cloud Forest Hike – Explore one of Monteverde’s main preserves and experience the biodiversity, wildlife, and landscapes that have made the region famous.
Live Spanish Beyond the Classroom
Your homestay is an important part of the immersion experience. Our Homestay Coordinator carefully matches each participant with a local family based on their preferences whenever possible.
Sharing everyday moments with your host family gives you the chance to practice Spanish naturally, learn more about Costa Rican life, and experience Monteverde as part of the local community rather than simply as a visitor.
